I've received a lot questions on why I have not updated this blog in a while. The tank had been on a roller coaster of cycles between good and bad. It would look great for a week and then another wave of corals die off. Fish were always plump and happy.
I decided to stay hands off on the tank until it stabilized which I knew would take a few months. I didn't even clean the front glass, kept the fish fed, tested water, cleaned the skimmer, did a few water changes, nothing else.
I took notes along the way which I'll publish here. I'm in the process of converting all my web sites to modern platforms. The days of hand editing HTML files in notepad (and vi) are over. Web 2.0 is on the way. I've already completed www.dursostandpipes.com and its shopping cart. My personal reef web site www.rl180reef.com is being converted now and hopefully will be ready in another month. I have a few hundred more pages to convert.
I was hoping to have this blog site converted as well, this has been delayed for technical reasons. So I guess I'll start back posting some updates.

I really hope those snails arrive soon, the dreaded algae is taking over again, and poor old sammy on his own just doesn’t have a big enough belly!

Well I think i’ll have to divert my ranting from algae to snails now. The algae is proving much less of an issue, but the snails have started eating the plants!
