Anyway ... lets come to the article and lets get started now :-)

If you really love the thought of showing off exotic fish in an aquarium but your space is limited or of an unusual shape, consider a custom fish tank. Available in just about any size, style and design, manufacturers will be able to design a custom fish tank for you. Custom fish tanks built is the wall is the newer trend and since they usually are designed with either glass or acrylic on four sides, it would be available to be seen from either side, giving an aquarium appearance in two different rooms. These tanks are usually about six inches wide and will only accommodate smaller species of aquatic life. They can be fitted with a removable frame to give the impression of artwork. Another custom fish tank can be designed to fit into an opening between two rooms, allowing a partial blocking of the space by the aquarium, allowing viewing from at least three sides. It can be attached to the fourth wall or you can have a custom designed stand built to make it part of the wall. Custom Design Tank To Fit Décor Larger tanks require more room, but a custom fish tank built has a half-round tank can stand against a wall, taking up less floor space than a traditional rectangular tank needs. Large, vertical tanks in a hexagon shape are also widely used to allow a bigger tank in less floor space. Half-hexagon with four sides and even a bow-shaped custom fish tank can be found for your home. Stands for a custom fish tank can also be special ordered, and in the case of an unusually shaped tank will have to be, in the finish of your choice. This way the stand is not just an obvious aquarium holder but also a piece of furniture in your home. Larger stands can be used for storing food and other accessories for your custom fish tank as well as holding it, but having a functional piece, will also help save storage space. Another advantage of a custom fish tank is that installation can be arranged to have all electrical needs for the heater, air filter and lights built in as well, hiding the unsightly array of wires. Built in tanks will still allow access for necessary cleaning, feeding and maintenance, but they will be more a port of your home and not like an odd addition.

Believe it or not the fish feel warm too when its hot out side and because of the fact the water in the fish tank is static it will get warm depending on the room temperature. However, there is an . . .

Latest News:

Replacement Pump Shipped
EuroReef finally provided a tracking number for the replacement skimmer pump. The e-mail said it would ship in 72 hours, took a week at least it is on the way.

Replacement Skimmer Pump Installed.
Finally the replacement recirculation pump for the EuroReef RC500 pump arrived. The pump is a Ehiem SPE4. Drained the skimmer (about 8 gallons of water) gave it a good cleaning. Took apart the remaining SP4x pump and let it soak in vinegar overnight.

The new pump is sooo quiet. The old one sounded like a popcorn machine when the needle wheel chopped up the air bubbles.

New Probes Installed.
Installed the new temperature probe for the AquaController Pro, calibrated the pH probe and installed the ORP probe. The first issue I noticed is that the temperature probe seems to be 2 degrees off on the low side.

As an interim fix, I programmed the AquaController Pro to add 2 degrees to the readout displayed and send an e-mail to Neptune Systems for clarification as the instruction manual hints that the probes are factory calibrated.

blooming snails
Well I think i’ll have to divert my ranting from algae to snails now. The algae is proving much less of an issue, but the snails have started eating the plants! To recap, we got some snails here: http://www.jammeh.com/fishblog/2005/09/26/woooo/ and some more here: http://www.jammeh.com/fishblog/2005/11/11/more-snails/ and they’re very good in the main, nice colours, shiney etc. I was actually [...]

just done it
Three buckets today. I really hope those snails arrive soon, the dreaded algae is taking over again, and poor old sammy on his own just doesn’t have a big enough belly! The bristlenose catfish who has no bristles on his nose (podger) should be eating it, and I think he is, but is just a baby so [...]
